What’s Real? A multi-demensional epic.

We had an absolute blast working with a group of home educated writers in Axminster last week. Their story, entitled ‘What’s Real?’, took us on an amazing journey into the world of dimensional jumps, world-hopping and competitive gymnastics. Entering a surreal and confusing world of dreams and multiple dimensions, ‘What’s Real?’ is a modern fantasy, in the grand tradition of speculative fiction. It tells the tale of a gymnast who can jump between universes simply by falling asleep. However, she has an achilles heel; she’s afraid of the dark! Add to that her attempt to save an injured baby-dragon and her nemesis, the mysterious ‘Monsieur Rat’, and you have all the ingredients of a classic story. The writers were exceptional and the stories they created were wonderful.

As always, they were supported by our brilliant team of volunteer writing mentors, so a huge thank you goes out to Ambs, Valerie, Millie, Jon and Raja. Further thanks for the incredible illustrations has to go to Francesca Chessa who worked so brilliantly to bring their stories to colourful life. And she did it all the way from Torino, Italy! Check out her work here.

Finally thank you to Beth and all the team at the Pippins Community Centre for organising and facilitating the session so expertly. We cannot wait to come and work with these amazing children again.
