Young musicians’ call to arms to help save the planet

Tuesday night saw the culmination of the fantastic “Listen Up!” project. Led by B-Sharp. this project has given a voice to young writers and musicians around Dorset who are concerned about the impacts of the climate change emergency. We worked with some extremely talented young musicians to create song lyrics and manifestos for change; a call to arms from the next generation, a generation who will be increasingly affected by the consequences of climate change. It was brilliant to hear their impassioned calls for action!

The evening was compered by the incomparable Louisa Adjoa Parker who gave us a reading of some of her poems, and we were also treated to live performances from the Lyme Regis Hub Jams bands. The culmination of the evening was a screening of ‘Can I Live?’, an incredibly powerful film addressing the climate emergency, created by Fehinti Balogun and Complicité Theatre.

We have loved working with the extraordinary young people and super music mentors from B-Sharp and a huge thanks goes to Ruth Cohen for organising and co-ordinating the project. Many thanks also to Raja Jarrah whose experience over years as a climate activist was invaluable to the group as they worked on their manifestos and song lyrics.
