The Story OF Me - Mountjoy Students Use narrative to write Their Personal Statements

We were delighted to be back in Mountjoy School again last week! The amazing writers from Ash Class were busy writing their own personal statements as they prepare to move on to schools, colleges and even work placements.

Over the course of the morning, we worked with the students to write accounts of the stories that they feel shaped them, and made them the incredible young people they are today. Their stories ranged from personal memoirs of the people who supported and moulded them growing up, to hilarious tales of the incidents that gave them the confidence or the passions that drive them forward. The writing they produced was singularly powerful and affecting, and could not have come from anyone but themselves.
The group then used the second part of their statement to demonstrate how this story showed their strengths, their qualities and their expectations for their next steps in life. And, judging by the statements they produced, this group are going to go a long way!

A massive thank you to Mrs Thurtle and all of the team at Mountjoy for having us back and letting us work with this brilliant group of students. And many thanks, once again to Nick, Lu and Karen, our volunteer mentors, for giving up their time to support the young people in their writing.
