Powerful prose & prawn skills

The second week of our Food, Glorious Food! project with Salway Ash Primary School was a busy mix of sharing experiences and writing. The youngsters brought in recipes and talked about why they were an important part of their lives. We also shared restaurant and café experiences and the pupils all created and performed skits to reflect an amusing food-related scenario.

The writers spent time developing the food ‘story’ their recipe inspired by considering the what, who, when, where, why, and writing paragraphs to expand on these. The children captured some delightful thoughts and moments on the page, evoking a real sense of empathy in the reader.

Finally, a bit of fun - and grossed out-ness - when we challenged the children to peel the shell off a prawn, which came from a pretty old food story itself.
