Holiday Club kicks off with Craft, Comics & Cyclops
What an August at BODAN! In between preparing for big autumn projects and book launches, we ran our first Summer Holiday Creative Writing Club at the WI Hall in Bridport.
Day 1: Our 16 young writers joined in a storymaking session to write a collaborative story about a Cyclops called Dave, who was offered refuge from daunting crowds by the 100-handed one, Bob. Hugh Dunford-Wood painted superb illustrations as the story unfolded.
After lunch the children made their own story fortune tellers, from which they created a character with a wish and a fear. We then asked them to take the stage and act short scenes as their characters - the young thespians performed with gusto.
These characters then formed the basis of a collaborative comic strip. Passing round the stories after each illustration - to be continued by a peer - allowed for high octane creativity and interpretation, before sharing the finished stories.
And that was just the first day! More on the creative holiday hub in our next post.
