Autumn Bounty at BODAN
In France, September is known as La Rentrée. A new academic year begins, the family holiday season is over, and everyone is getting organised. It’s a new year celebration of sorts, and definitely resonates with us here at the Bank of Dreams & Nightmares, where we’re busy sharpening pencils and gathering stationery supplies for the new season.
We didn’t stop for the summer, mind! See our recent short series of blog posts for a look back at our hugely successful August creative writing holiday club. But now it’s back to school all round, and we’re turning our attention to some larger projects coming up this Autumn and beyond.
A taster of what we will be up to around the region over the coming months: A Food Glorious Food special project at Salway Ash Primary School to celebrate food stories ahead of the harvest festival; we’re going to be helping Beaminster Scouts achieve their Creative Writing Badges; we’ll be Discovering Farming at Washingpool Farm, Haiku style; there’s A Guide to Weymouth to be devised and written by Year 9 students at Budmouth Academy for publication in Spring 2023; a Songwriting project with Bridport St Mary’s Primary School to culminate in a professionally recorded album (!); a writing Sketch Comedy series of sessions at Sir John Colfox school, which will see professional writers and actors involved to see the children’s work develop from writers’ room to filming to TV transmission; and creative writing projects being developed with Axe Valley and Thomas Hardye schools.
All of that, in addition to our fabulous Storymaking Workshops for Key Stage 2 children in schools all year round, our secondary school Podcasting sessions, and more exciting ideas in development.
Phew! Exciting times at BODAN and we’re ready to enrich young minds with creative writing fun across the region. Please get in touch for more information about what we do and/or what you’d like us to do to ignite your pupils’ imaginations and writing prowess, be they in school, home schooled, youth group members, and more.
