Secondary school publication and workshop T&C’s
By booking a workshop, or series of workshops, from The Bank of Dreams and Nightmares, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.
The copyright for any written contribution published following the workshop(s) will remain with the author. This permission is not exclusive, and the author can continue to use the material in any way they choose, including submitting the work for publication elsewhere or allowing others to use it for whatever purpose the author chooses.
All content produced by participants for publication as part of the workshop, must be the original work of the participant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. In addition, the use of generative AI tools to create all or part of a submission is not permitted and will be rejected. The Bank will always discuss this with the author and will work with them to resolve the issues and allow them to publish their own original work.
In order to participate in, and contribute to, a Bank of Dreams & Nightmares workshop, participants are required to complete and submit a consent form supplying elements of personal information, acknowledging our terms and conditions of participation and indicating what the Bank may do with that information (e.g. whether permission is given to use photographs for promotional purposes, etc). Any personal information supplied to us as part of this consent process will be collected, stored and used in accordance with the Bank of Dreams & Nightmares Privacy Policy.
The Bank takes its role in safeguarding the young people we work with extremely seriously. We have a responsibility to look after the wellbeing of our authors, but also the wellbeing of anyone who might read their stories or poems. We understand that the audience that content is intended for can vary greatly. Readers will include a range of ages, backgrounds and cultures.
While we reserve the right to publish stories and poems containing more mature content, we undertake to do so with suitable warnings attached, indicating that such content may not be suitable for younger readers. These decisions remain solely the responsibility of The Bank.
Should any participating institution (School, Youth Club, Funding body, LGA etc) feel that any content is inappropriate, at odds with their ethos or reflects negatively upon their institution, we will endeavour to work with such bodies to find a solution. However, subject to the previous sentence, all final editorial and publishing decisions remain the sole responsibility of The Bank of Dreams & Nightmares.
We will always endeavour to discuss the content of any written piece with the author and work with them to explore different ways to express confrontational or upsetting material in an appropriate way. As less experienced authors, we understand that they may not yet have the skills to tackle more challenging topics in appropriate ways.
In addition, if, as workshop leaders, we feel that any participant is producing content which could reveal difficulties they are experiencing or have experienced, or which might lead another student or reader to thoughts that are potentially unsafe for them, The Bank will discuss with the participants, the content of their story or the way in which they have written it. This could include, but is not limited to, vivid descriptions of violence, sexual violence or sexual content, self-harm or suicide, overt racism or misogyny etc. If we believe a participant’s writing might have a negative impact on their readers, particularly younger readers or other students, we will always speak to the author about it and seek to clarify their intention or work with them to explore different ways to communicate their ideas, before the material is published. Where we are concerned that such material could indicate a safeguarding issue we will inform our Designated Safeguarding Lead and instigate our safeguarding procedures as laid out in our Safeguarding Policy.
All content published by The Bank is written by the participants and all views expressed are their own. The opinions or beliefs expressed in our publications are not those of The Bank of Dreams & Nightmares unless explicitly stated.
The Bank of Dreams & Nightmares shall not be liable for any of the following losses or damage to institutions or individuals we work with (whether such damage or losses were foreseen, foreseeable, known or otherwise) in respect of:
(a) loss of revenue or anticipated profits;
(b) loss of business;
(c) loss of opportunity;
(d) loss of goodwill or injury to reputation;
(f) losses suffered by third parties
