Pilsdon Pen Creates a Buzz

Our last two primary storymaking workshops of this academic year were spent at Marshwood School. Our morning with Pilsdon Pen class was just one aspect of a fortnight of creative and active enrichment for the 10-11 year-olds, all laid on by this delightful school.

In our storymaking session the class voted on a bee protagonist called Jim, who faced the far bigger and far brasher hornets after they invaded the hive and took his mum.

We were lucky to have a live illustrator in the room for this story; Joe Whitehead, a Year 12 student from Woodroffe School, joined us on work experience for the week, and put his artistic talents into practice using fountain pen and watercolour. Joe’s artwork was also quite the inspiration for the younger pupils, as you can see from the gallery below.

Joe is the third work experience student we have hosted in our first year; at TBODAN we are keen to nurture young minds and offer such opportunities where and when possible. And with talents like Joe’s, the exchange is definitely of mutual benefit! Read the fully illustrated story of Bee Vs Hornets in our Stories Hall of Fame.
